Youth Dynamics Auction Cookies – Rock’n 50’s

Blessed

This past year has been such a sweet blessing here at Butterflies and Bumblebees. Along the way, I’ve had the joy of baking for so many beautiful celebrations and occasions. They include, baby showers, birthdays, weddings, community events, holidays, and everything in between. Each order I bake, cookie class I teach, conversation I have and kind message I receive mean so much to me. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who trusted me with their celebrations.

Highlights

One of the highlights of this year was seeing how much people loved their custom treats, cookie decorating classes and special events. Each time a sent a picture letting you know your order had been completed and I received “I love them” in response, my heart grew. It has been my pleasure to connect with you all in real life – to see smiles, hear laughter and watch sweet memories being made. I have also loved supporting community auctions and giving back wherever I could. Your support helped make that possible and I am so THANKFUL.

Community

Here are a few of the organizations I was able to support this year: Boys and Girls Club, Youth Dynamics, Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation, Care Mose Lake, Habitat for Humanity, and several other groups and organizations.

What’s Next

As 2026 approaches, I’m excited for continued creativity, more cozy sweetness and meaningful baking that feels joyful and intentional. I look forward to sharing more stories, tutorials, and behind-the-scenes moments. I can’t wait to dream up new treats and experiences alongside you.

My biggest project will be starting to work on my trailer. The plan is to have it ready for the fall 2026 baking season. This project will allow me to offer a farmstand feel not only at my home, but in the community as well. Stay tune for some fun way you will be able to support the build of the trailer. If you haven’t already signed up to receive emails from me, I would love for you to do that. You can sign up here.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for being here. For cheering, sharing, ordering, attending, reading and encouraging. Finally, Butterflies and Bumblebees exists because of wonderful people like you – and I can’t wait to see what sweetness unfolds next.

With warmth, kindness and a lot of butter,

Kris

I recently received a request for cupcake garden. 18 dozen cupcakes that look like a beautiful floral arrangement. My initial reaction was NO but then I took a deep breath, and the conversations began. Bride: Is that possible? Me: Anything is possible. The real question is… Can I create them?

I still do not know the answer to that question. I can do beautiful roses and rose buds, but can I actually create a garden of cupcake flowers? Roses, Hydrangeas, Pansies, Daisies and Sunflowers all in pastel colors of lavender, peach, pink, yellow and blue. My mind’s eye can see the vision, but do I have the talent to make it come to life.

This question pops up a lot when someone challenges me to create something I don’t feel confident in creating. However, if I don’t challenge myself on occasion I will not grow as a baker. No one ever does anything perfect without practice.

Today begins the journey of a cupcake garden. There will be mistakes, bloopers and fun. Follow along as I become a cupcake garden expert. Encouragement is welcome. I will take all the help I can get!

Adding Dimension

There are many different ways to add dimension to decorated sugar cookies. Adding texture, shading, and royal icing transfers can bring life to your creations.

My favorite way to add dimension to my cookies is by using royal icing transfers. These can be flowers, small seasonal images or in the case of this cookie, Easter Eggs.

Instead of piping the eggs onto the cookie itself you pipe them onto parchment paper. They are then left over night to dry. I “speckled” these eggs by using edible gold paint and a brush to splatter them.

Why transfers? They allow you to create several items at one time. You can then come back and add details with edible paint or marker. After the transfers are dry you “glue” them to the cookie using royal icing.

The beginning of a bakery!

During the covid crisis I chose to teach myself how to decorate sugar cookies. It was something I had wanted to learn since watching Martha Stewart do it on a morning show. She made is look so easy. (It isn’t!)

In October of 2020 I shared my first set of decorated sugar cookies. They were Halloween themed, and I remember being so excited that I had actually made them look good. They were instantly shared to Facebook so that everyone else could join in my excitement. Then the unexpected happened. People wanted to know how to buy them. Could I actually sell them?

It turns out the answer to the question was YES! It took me until 2023 before I realized I needed to license my little side business. In March of 2024 I became a licensed cottage kitchen in the State of Washington. I am celebrating my 1-year anniversary this month.

It amazes me how things work out. If you would have told my 20-year-old self I would be baking for people I would have said, NO! The funny thing is that I was about 25 when Martha planted that little seed in my heart. It grew until the time was right for it to be harvested. I am so glad it was planted. I love to bake and baking for other people makes it even better.

If you have ordered cookies or other goodies from me in the last year thank you. If you are a customer I haven’t met yet, welcome! I am looking forward to growing my little bakery and nothing matters more than you being a part of it!

Hello Baking Friends!

2025 has started off a little slow in my kitchen and I have been enjoying the time off after a very busy holiday season. I appreciate each of you for supporting my baking adventures. Your encouragement and orders mean so very much to me.

With that being said… It is time to get back to work. I have some fun things in store for you. I will be launching my website which I am super excited about. I will be offering several “Holiday Specials” for Valentine’s Day including Cookie Bouquets. There are also two cookie classes San Valentino Cookie Decorating Class at ENZO! Feb 8th 2:00 – 4:30 PM! and The Baker and the Brewery – Valentine’s Day Cookie Class Feb 13, 6-8pm, and a pop-up event (information coming) scheduled for the season of hearts.

I am always looking for a way to make my workspace more efficient. I took the time this week to completely reorganize my decorating and packaging area. (Pictured) I added the bookshelf by the wall and organized all my cookie cutters into bigger bins. I love the way it feels and flows. I always find it so amazing how one small thing can make such a big difference.

I am looking forward to sharing many more baking adventures with you in 2025. Please keep challenging me with custom cookie orders and baking questions.

The Baker!
